AGRARIAN REFORM
Opposition In Italy I Modification Sought By Land Owners NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8.30 p.m. LONDON, Mar. 21. According to the Rome correspondents of the Daily Telegraph and The Times, the Italian Cabinet last night held a special meeting to discuss a plan for agrarian reform proposed by Signor Antonio Segni, the Minister of Agriculture. Signor Segni's plan, which foresees the break-up of large estates, has met with bitter opposition from such princely families as Dorja, Colonna, Torlonia, and Orsini. Many of these great land owners, who are already, nervous about the fate of their properties, are trying to sell part of their land. They are also bringing pressure to bear in Parliament to have the plan modified. The passage of Signor Segni’s proposals through Parliament is likely to involve a long and stormy debate.
