POST IN LONDON
FEDERAL DEFENCE MINISTER Rec. 7.50 p.m. CANBERRA, Feb. 16. The Defence Minister, Mr E. J. Harrison, has been appointed Resident Minister in London. Announcing this, the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies. said the appointment would be probably for the rest of this year. Mr Harrison will retain Cabinet status.
An earlier message said Mr Harrison boycotted an official dinner tendered by the Governor-General, Mr W. J. McKell, to Cabinet Ministers of the Menzies Government and their wives. The party was held at Government House, and was the first official dinner given by Mr McKell to the new Ministry since its appointment in December, In deliberately refusing to attend the dinner, Mr Harrison is known to be adhering to his publicly-announced policy of not attending any official function given by Mr McKell unless compelled to do so by law.
