NEW BULGARIAN PRIME MINISTER

The Bulgarian Parliament unanimously elected the Secretary-general of the Bulgarian Communist Party, Mr Valko Chervenkov, as Bulgaria’s Prime Minister in succession to Mr Kolarov, who died on January 23. Mr Chervenkov, who is aged 50, has been an active member of the Bulgarian Communist Party since 1919. He was appointed a member of the Central Committee and Politburo in 1944, and last August was elected vicepresident of the Council of Ministers.
