Forty-three Houses At Mussel Bay Have Now Been Allocated

Sixteen months ago, work began on the laying of the foundations for 64 State houses at Mussel Bay, near Port Chalmers. Now, 43 of the 64 units in the new settlement are occupied, and the remainder of the houses are rapidly being finished. . , Since the houses were occupied, .the rough appearance of a great ’ part of the area has been changed. Soil has been brought in for gardens, and work by the residents has transformed the area. Work has still to be carried out on the laying of roads and footpaths, hedges have still to be planted, and the whole area has to be tidied up generally, but Mussel Bay is fast becoming an attractive residential spot beside the harbour.
