FIRST MEDICAL BOARDS
Examinations Yesterday The first medical board for youths who have turned 18 years of age since November 1 and had registered up to January 23 was held in the Drill Hall yesterday. The visual test was held in the morning, the X-ray took place in the afternoon, and the youths went before the medical board last night. In an interview with the Daily Times yesterday, Mr A. G. Lyttle, said that to date 17 registrations had been received. This number was slowly coming up to the figure of the estimated 20 who were expected to turn 18 between November 1 and January 23. Applications were also being received from youths 17J years of age prpvided they could put forward a sound reason for entering camp at this age. Due consideration was given to such reasons as the completion of training before seasonal farm work commenced, or before studies were entered upon. Some youths who had turned 18 years prior to November 1- had applied for registration, Mr Lyttle said, and had been disappointed when told that their applications were not acceptable. No* conscientious objectors had registered to date, he said. The “ deadline ” for those who had turned 18 years since November 1 was yesterday, Mr Lyttle added, and unless registrations were made promptly these youths might miss the first camp in May.
