FIRE CALLS FOR YEAR

NO MAJOR OUTBREAKS ONE FATALITY FROM BURNS Although there were no major fires in the Dunedin metropolitan area during the year, two fires caused fairly high loss. The first was at Donaghy’s Rope and Twine works on March 14. and the second was at Cromwell Chambers, in Dowling street, on May 21. This information was given to the Daily Times by the. Dunedin Fire Brigade. There was one fatality for the year. A child died as the result of bu\rns received in a fire at Hanover street on June 14. For the 12 months so far, 986 calls were received by the brigade. Gf these, 217 were tor fires in or on property, 312 were chimney fires, 164 were grass, gorse or rubbish fires, and 293 false alarms. Of these, 44 were malicious, 86 were justifiable, 119 were automatic and 44 were accidental.
