MOTOR CAR REPAIRS PETROL SALES FOR HOLIDAYS Although the repair shops had been blocked up with work, the managers of several large garages in Dunedin agreed that so tar Mew Year petrol sales were down on those of 1948-49. Mechanical staffs were working at full pressure trying to get cars repaired ready for the holiday period. Christmas petrol saies had been a record, and garages had been full of cars for reP One manager said that his full mechanical staff was working "•flat out” on mechanical repairs. Tyre repairs were plentiful and there had been several caravans with broken axles. During Christmas he estimated that his petrol sales had been a record. Other managers agreed that Christmas had been a record period for petrol sales, and thought that • the Government's action in making available for three months had something to do with it.
