Scientists See Solar Rainstorm Recorded On Film

Rec. 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 28. Scientists today saw the greatest “ rainstorm ” ever recorded—it was literally out of this world. They watched fiery gases falling on the sun from an altitude of 50,000 miles over an area of 1,000,000,000 square miles. It was one of many scenes of explosive violence in a scientific film shown at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The temperature of the gases in the solar rainstorm was so high that ordinary metals, such as iron, would be completely vaporised. The film was made with the aid of a powerful telescope at Harvard,, University and the University of ' Colorado.
