HEAVY BOOKINGS
TRAINS AND BUSES ACCOMMODATION TAXED Although holiday accommodation during the Christmas period was difficult to obtain in Oamaru, it will be even hiore so at New Year. A busy period was experienced at Christmas, but from inquiries made by the Daily Times it appears that Christmas. 1948, was busier. Indications are that the two race meetings in Oamaru on Saturday and Tuesday will draw large crowds, and it is believed that all the available accommodation will be fully taxed. The increased amount of petrol made available to motorists during the holidays appears to be responsible for the smaller numbers who stayed at hotels and guest houses during Christmas, and, moreover, a greater number of caravans have been seen on the roads. About the same number of local residents have travelled afield by train this year as last, and the trains next week are very heavily booked. A record number of people have travelled on the Railway Road Services buses, and here again bookings are heavy for next week.
