ENCOURAGING RESULTS IN COOK ISLANDS PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 27.. “ We are hoping for the day when the Cook Islands can be made an asset instead of a liability for the people of New Zealand,” said Mr A. R. Henry, chairman of directors of the Cook Islands .Producers’ Co-operative Society, 'Ltd., who arrived- at Auckland from Rarotonga today in the society’s vessel La Reta. “ For the first time in their history, the island people have their ov>n ship and are trying to do something for themselves,” Mr Henry said.

The society, which was registered at Wellington early this year, had 6000 members out of a population in the main and northern groups of about 15,000. Already production had increased beyond the 50-ton capacity of La Reta, and the need for aonther ship was urgent.
