UNIVERSITY RUGBY
“ SPRINGBOXFORD ” VERSUS CAMBRIDGE Resident Correspondent LONDON, Dec. 23. Scores of New Zealanders were among the record crowd of 59,000 at Twickenham last Tuesday to see Oxford University just , beat Cambridge 3_o in a keen, but not over-exciting, match. Of the 68 matches now played, Oxford have won 31, Cambridge 26. and 11 have been drawn. The performance of 1. J Botting, the All Black winger, was closely followed by his countrymen who were rewarded by a safe, if not brilliant, display. While his tactics could not be faulted, especially on defence, critics commented that, he does not appear to have enough speed to be classed a great three-quarter. Oxford played five South Africans, which gave some point to the observation that.'it was really “Springhoxford ” v. Cambridge.
