ASHBURTON TROTTING CUP BURNS NIGHT SCORES IN STAKES PA ASHBURTON. Dec. 26. The Ashburton Trotting Club's summer meeting was held today in dull weatner, with a strong nor’-west wind. The totalisator handled £82,149 10s, compared with £77,315 10s last year. An inquiry was held into an accident at the start of the New Zealand Champion Stakes. Gay Lyric galloped off the mark and struck the suiky of Linda Grattan. Williams, the driver of Gay Lyricf was thrown out out and hit his head on the rails. Farlena broke and Clifton star cannoned into her ana also fell, stopping Gay Heritage. The accident did not appear to affect the result and as no blame was attachable to anyone no action was considered necessary. Results:— Mitcham Handicap, of £330.
