CLOSELY CONTESTED

ALBION AND OAMARU MATCH RAIN AGAIN MARS PLAY For the third successive Saturday, play in the'North Otago Cricket Association’s competitions has been marred by rain. Albion, the leading team in the competition, was beaten narrowly, on the first innings by Oamaru A. Oamaru A at the dose of play last Saturday had seven wickets down for 185 runs, Kyles being 21 out and Watson 14 not .out. The Oamaru innings closed without further addition to the score as Berry claimed the last two wickets with the first and second balls of his first over.

Albion, with four wickets down for 107, looked like passing the Oamaru total, but a sudden slump in the batting saw the ninth wicket fall at 129, 56 runs behind Oamaru’s score. A last-wicket stand between Balk and O’Connor proved the highlight of the match, and the pair added 54 runs, of which Balk made 52. Balk kept the bowling from O'Connor as much as possible, and he was out eventually to a good catch behind the wickets by L. ‘ Watson off S. Dick, with the score just 2 short of the Oamaru total. Balk's 76 runs were well compiled and he displayed an excellent cover drive and a shot past point. Berry also batted well for his 50. For Oamaru, A. Currie bowled exceptionally well and had all of the batsmen in difficulties. He made the ball move in the air and rise sharply off the wicket and thoroughly deserved all of his wickets. Scores:—
