NATIVE BIRDS

WILD LIFE PUBLICATION Thirteen native species of perching birds, living and extinct, five exotic •pecies which breed in New Zealand, six species which may occur as stragglers, and one exotic species which may breed locally are included in Allied Perching Birds in New Zealand, -a second number of Volume II of the Wild Life series being written by Mr L. E. Richdale, M.A., H.D.A. The booklet is profusely illustrated and is as the author states, a part of a simple text book for those people who may be interested in the bird life of New Zealand but have not the time nor the desire to delve deeply into the subject. A physical description of each biro, its habits as they are known, food, breeding and distribution, are contained in the booklet. Some interesting full-sized plates aid in the presentation of the publication and some authoritative comments on the relation of various species to human life are included. *
