American Promise To West Europe

Rec. 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 7. The United States Defence Secretary, Mr Lo,uis Johnson, today promised Western Europe modern weapons and full military co-operation in repelling any aggression. He told the National Association of Manufacturers that the arms authorised by Congress under the Military Assistance Programme would be “ good and modem." Mr Johnson, who recently returned from the Atlantic Treaty Defence Committee meeting in Paris, added: “ The attacker of today can be expected to come armed with the most modern and the most devastating weapons. He wiH have to be met with the kind of weapons that can detqr him.”
