BAN ON SMOKING

TWO CITY HALLS DEPUTY MAYOR EXPLAINS The “ no smoking ” ban in the Town Hall was being enforced by the Dunedin City Council in accordance with notices which had been served on, it by the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire Board, said the Deputy Mayor, Cr Wright, in a statement to the Daily Times yesterday.

Cr Wright said that the regulations of the Fire Board and the city bylaws stated that no smoking was permitted in halls which had seating accommodation for more than 500 persons. This applied to both the Town Hall and the Concert Chamber. The ban applied only to the actual halls themselves, Cr Wright said, and smoking was permitted in the foyers, where sand boxes were provided.
