SUNDAY PLAY ON GRASS COURTS

A motion passed at last night’s meeting of .the Oamaru Borough Council makes it permissible to play tennis on the grass courts at the Gardens on Sundays. In response to a request bv the council, the North Otago Lawn Tennis Association forwarded a plan for spelling the grass courts during the week. Crs A. E. Hamilton, D. S. Bain and A. R. Wise asked that their objections be recorded. The association suggested that four courts be spelled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and all courts spelled on Fridays. This would mean, the letter stated, that six courts would be available for play on five days of the week and 10 courts at the week-end. It was suggested that the courts be spelled in rotation.

It was decided that the request of the association be granted subject to the courts being spelled as required, and subject to the condition that no organised games be played on Sundays.
