FIRE IN WOOLSHED

OVER 200 SHEEP PERISH PA NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 8. Between 200 and 300 sheep perished when fire swept through a wool shed on the Tauranga-Taupo Maori develop-

ment scheme, 12 miles north of Tokaanu at 7.30 last night. It is estimated that the loss of buildings and plant, which were totally destroyed, will amount to £2OOO and that the value of the sheep is between £7OO and £9OO. The sheep were placed in the wdbl shed in readiness for shearing this morning. The shed was unattended, and when nearby residents arrived

they were confronted by an inferno. They were unable to extricate any of the trapped animals. The loss of the buildings, which were comparatively new, with up-to-date plant will be a severe blow to the district, for it is the only wool shed on the Tauranga-Taupo scheme, which comprises several thousand acres.
