ALL KINDS OF MOTORISTS
Sir, —It truly ddes take all sorts to make a world. This has been full exemplified during the past week in a small township about 50 miles from Dunedin. Alterations to the main highway necessitate the making of a detour by the travelling public. Every type of motorist seems to be using this road. There is the motorist who cautiously approaches the " road up ” signs, stops his car, gets out and reads the notices carefully, and then cautiously sets out on the detour. Then there is the one who dashes gaily past on the main road, ignoring all notices, only to come creeping bacs some 20 minutes later to take the detour after Sl Then there is the happy-go-lucky " take everything as it comes motorist who. seeing the -road up" signs, swerves smoothly on to the detour road without any alteration in pace at all. Then comes the motorist who rushes past the signs at full speed, catches a fleeting glimpse of said notices, jams on his brakes, which squeal protestingly. and reverses to take the detour. And last, but not least, the motorist who stops his car (but it's mostly her car), calls on the long-suffering residents at the corner and inquires Why is the road up? Is the detour road a good one? How far out of the way does it take one? (Despite the fact that one notice states the mileage.) Co H' d ,, l „P oss '?„ y J; 1 through on the main road? etc., etc., etc. Is it anv wonder that this long-suffering householder is thinking of putting out a notice-board also, stating House - For Sale. —I am, Resident.
