TARRAS-LOWBURN ROAD
Sir,—lt is with the greatest surprise that we learn the Vincent County Council is attempting to take the Main Highways Board to ask for receiving us as a deputation when the board was recently in the district. If any lack of courtesy exists it lies at the door of the council itself, which 12 months ago received a deputation in regard to the above matter. The council whilst it received the deputation—it could, of course, have not done otherwise —did not have the courtesy to advise the deputation later of its deliberations. We have reason to believe that this is because the council did not discuss the matter placed before it by the deputation. The recently-retired chairman of the council was well aware of the fact that if the council was going to take no steps in the matter, the deputation would, and it ill behoves him to take exception now to the board going into the subject on the spot with people who are interested enough in the welfare of the county to give the time necessary -for the deputaU Rather than take the : ction they contemplate. the council should pass a vote of thanks to the deputation for achieving a result the council itself could not or would not obtain:—We are etc.. Cromwell The Deputation.
