STERLING PETROL

OFFER TO MR HOLLAND 13,500,000 GALLONS NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 2. Three cargoes of sterling petrol from France and Bahrein representing 13,500.000 gallons, is being offered to New Zealand by a Queensland firm, the Great Northern Trading Company, Ltd. A cable was despatched by the firm to-day to the Prime Ministerelect, Mr Holland, reading: Congratulations. Can offer sterling petrol for your requirements if interested. Loading a sterling tanker in January, 1950. The firm states that the petrol is part of a 14,000-ton order which could not be brought to Brisbane for a lack of storage space and a lack of interest on the part of the State and Federal Government executives and oil com- 1 panies.

A spokesman for the firm said that in spite of his assurances and irrefutable evidence, the Governments had questioned whether the pptrol was procurable without the use of dollars
