Increased Price Authorised For Tailored Suits
PA CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 25. Bespoke tailors throughout New Zealand may now charge approximately 14 per cent, more on the cut, make, and trim charges for their garments. This will not mean an increase of 14 per cent, on the total price of the garment, as cut, make, and trim charges amount to little more than half the price of a suit. The increase in the price of the average man’s suit will be between £1 and £1 10s, each tailor having an individual price approval. The new price approvals became effective on November 14. Besides men’s suits, overcoats and slacks and women’s garments made by bespoke tailors will be increased in price. , . A spokesman for the tailoring trade in Christchurch to-day said that the increase would cover part of the increased costs of production. Three wage increases had been granted since the original cut, make, and trim charges had been fixed, and this was the first price increase granted the trade. There was likely to be a_ further increase in the price of finished articles because of the increased price of materials from England, he said.
