AIRWAY FILM An invitation has been extended by the Oamaru Chamber of Commerce, to the public to attend the screening of coloursound films by the National Airways Corporation The films will depict current air cargo facilities, junior pilot training and includes a travel film entitled "Wings Over New Zealand..” A short address will be given on the administrative aspects of commercial transport and the. technical operation of airlines and navigation in New Zealand. The evening should be both entertaining and of considerable educational value. An invitation has been issued to the public. AID TO CHINA

Since the recent copper trail held by the North Otago Girl Guides' Association succeeded in raising £6O, the associationhas been actively engaged in making up' parcels for China. Last week 30 parcels each 111 b in weight, and containing food, seeds, school and medical supplies were despatched by air to China. In addition, five Peggy square quilts knitted by the Guides were sent. The appeal was made on behalf of Rewi Alley’s schools in China.

TELEPHONE EXCHANGE The reference in Saturday’s issue to the opening of telephone exchanges in North Otago was to the new manual exchange in Oamaru, which is expected to be ready for operation about the second week in December, and not to the rural automatic telephone exchanges. BEEKEEPERS’ DAY

Perfect weather gave the beekeepers ideal conditions for a field day at Duntroon on Saturday. The main features of the programme were talks by Mr I. W. Forester on swarm control and queen rearing: Mr J. McFadzien on the use of a division board for increasing stock requeening; Mr D. Hamilton on spring management: and Mr A. Farmer on foul brood its detection and treatment. Mr I. W.'Forester, on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, and Mr T. Jackson, on behalf of the Dunedin branch of the Beekeepers' Association, thanked the North Otago branch for organising an interesting and enjoyable day.
