HEALTH REBATE

SOCIAL SECURITY TAX INTERESTING SUGGESTION A way of encouraging people to take more interest in their health would be to provide a rebate of social security tax if no claim was made for the year, said Sir T.homas Hunter, in an interview with the Daily Times yesterday. Sir Thomas, who was knighted for his services to dentistry, emphasised the point that people who stayed well were being taxed to pay for those, who through neglect of ordinary hygiene, became a charge on the community. The Government’s statutory provision for people to take time off for morning and afternoon teas was condemned by Sir Thomas. The snacks between meals were not only responsible for much dental decay, he said, but also for much intestinal disorder. The people of this country ate too much and too often, and the Government encouraged them to do it.
