EIRE

Sir,—” Ulster Immigrant" is mistaken if he thinks that I only use " Ex-Protestant ” as a nom-de-plume. I am a former member of the Anglican Church, but I am now a staunch son of the Catholic Church. I am not an Irish Nationalist by any means; I am proud of my British citizenship and of our British Empire. It seems that ” Ulster Immigrant ” is in need of some prayers as Belfast is noted for its non-church-going Protestants. The people of Eire work very hard for their daily bread, but are fortified by prayers which, according to Pope Pius XI, will pierce the heart of God quicker than the sword. I read about the man being aquitted by a Northern Irish jury for murdering a publican because the deceased was a Catholic in The Standard in October, 1948. One has only to look at the number of churches dedicated to St. Patrick throughout the world, and study the history of Australia to see what good the people of Irish blood have done for mankind. “ Ulster Immigrant ” has not answered my question regarding electoral qualifications in Northern Ireland property, and I would like him to give me a proper answer. Every person does not get his rights in Ulster, unless he agrees to support the Brook Government, and that 1 can prove beyond all doubt to be correct. —I am. etc.. Ex-Protestant. Ashburton:

Sir, —When De Valera was here some time ago, was he promised aid against Northern Ireland, financially, morally, religiously, or in a military manner? If the champions of Eire, including De Valera, were given £lO each and made to live in one of the villages of West Ireland for three years without leaving it for a single day, they would be forever dumb about the goodness of that distressful country.—l am, etc., Mode.
