BRILLIANT WIN

LINCOLN IN CAULFIELD CUP RIDDEN BY NEW ZEALANDER Rec 7.30 p.m. MELBOURNE. Oct. 16. Lincoln 6.10. the lowest weight in the Caulfield Cup, finished brilliantly to defeat St. Razzle in the last few yards and win the Caulfield Cup by half a length, with the firm favourite, Comic Court, a neck away third. Lincoln is trained by L. Robertson for Mr A. H. Griffith, who has been out of luck in racing since he raced Lawrence, who was rather unluckily defeated in the Caulfield Cup by Council. Lincoln was strongly favoured last year, but weakened after looking a danger at the home turn. This year he has been showing improved form and has been finishing on strongly in his races. When Comic Court, the firm favourite, dashed to the front immediately the straight was reached his backers expected him to record an easy win. With a furlong to go he began to weaken and the outsider. St. Razzle, secured his measure near the post, only to be challenged immediately by Lincoln. In the run home Lincoln proved too strong, and won comfortably. Lincoln was ridden by the New Zealand apprentice. N. Eastwood. who was the youngest and the lightest boy riding in the race. Eastwood is aged 19 years and weighs sst 81b. Eastwood arrived recently in Australia and is attached to the Royal Tan stable. Previously he had ridden six winners, but this has been his most important success. He rode the winner very capably and is likely to be in good demand for light-weight riding at the spring meeting. Comic Court had every chance, but failed to see out the distance. Two New Zealanders in Royal Tan and Lord Revel did fairly well. After being a long way back early Royal Tan finished on to run seventh. He will probably do better at Flemington. Lord Revel was never a possibility, but should improve as his preparation had been interrupted by al ßa?n U fell at intervals during the morning but the weather cleared during the afternoon.
