REMOVAL OF PRICE CONTROL ON SOME LINES IS EXPECTED
Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. The removal of price control from a limited range of goods is expected shortly. The goods affected will be those which the price control authorities agree can be safely lifted without fear of a substantial variation in prices.
Representations have been made by the Retailers’ and Manufacturers’ Federations for the removal of control on a list of items including hard furniture, men’s hats, handbags, furs and radios. Most, if not all, of these are likely to appear in the list of decontrolled goods which the Minister of Industries and Commerce. Mr Nordmeyer, is expected to announce soon.
The official journal of the New Zealand Retailers’ Federation, The Retailer of New Zealand, in its issue published to-night,, quotes the removal of controls from a large range of goods in Britain and asks, “Why cannot this happen, here? It can happen in Britain.”
