WINGATUI TRIALS

Fine Might Impresses Roygbiv Coining To Hand Well By Springfield A sound trial over six furlongs by Fine Night was the feature of the track work at Wingatui yesterday morning. The course proper, with the trestles 45ft out, was open, and it was on the easy side after recent rain. From almost a standing start, Fine Night, with a light weight up, completed his task in lmin 21 l-ssec, the first three in 39 3-ssec, and the last half in 55 3-ssec. He pulled up well. Haughty Lyric went over a similar distance on the sand in lmin 22sec. He took 37sec for the first three and 57 l-ssec for the last half. He wgs being pulled up short of the post.

After taking 42sec for the first three furlongs, Roygbiv took lmin 22 3-ssec for six furlongs, the last half in 54 l-ssec. He has fined down a lot in the past few weeks and is in splendid order. Douglas Haig was sent over six furlongs at a strong pace. He took 44 3-ssec for the first three and was eased up in the straight. Subtraction was being shaken up to keep alongside All Hurry at the end of five furlongs in lmin 7sec, the first furlong in 12 4-ssec. All Hurry has never looked better and he should be seen to advantage against the novices at Gore next week.

The two-year-olds. Cherry Prince and Master Galloway, recorded the‘best half of the morning. They were under a good hold all the way and took 54 3-ssec, the first furlong in 13 l-ssec. Cherry Prince is a recent addition to R. Heasley’s team. Jamell was sent over two rounds on the sand at a very quiet pace, coming home from the three-furlong post in 41 l-ssec. He was working well within himself.

Diablo was speeded up at the three and he came home in 43sec under a good hold. He looks in good racing trim. Redlo and Addition went quietly over three furlongs in 43 2-ssec. with the former keen to increase the pace. T. A. McLeod has turned Paper View out for a spell. The Paper Slipper gelding is causing concern in the ligaments. If he could be kept sound Paper View should develop? good form. Gold King and Kosher ard' being restricted to road work at present. Both have improved, during their short let-up. Jottings Nominations for the New Zealand Cup and Stewards’ Handicap are due to-day. Acceptances for the first day of the Gore Racing Club’s meeting are due on Monday. Subtraction and Redlo are doubtful starters at the Geraldine meeting tomorrow.

Pierre, who is engaged in the Wainui Handicap at Trentham to-morrow, is a four-year-old full-brother to Welcome Guest.

' Lord Foxbridge will be better suited by the six-furlong journey in the Epsom Handicap at Ellerslie to-morrow than he was by the mile in the Guineas last week. Trentham Prospect Swayup will be attempting to win his sixth race on end when he parades m the Shorts Handicap at Trentham tomorrow. The Sir Galloway colt will not be without strong support, even though the field contains sprinters of the calibre of False Step, Gold Script, Flying Sovereign and Castlebrae. At his last appearance. Swayup won the Dunedin Guineas from a small but select field in time which broke the mile record for the course. He has drawn No. 2 at the barrier, and he can be expected to carry the field along at a merry clip. Dominion-bred Sire

A feature of thb two-year-old race on Epsom day at Adelaide was the success of the first crop of the former New Zealand horse, Beau Cheval. o His progeny ran first, third and fourth. The winner, Beau Avion, who had previously run two good seconds, is now being claimed as the best colt in South Australia. Beau Cheval, who was got by Beau Pere from a champion mare in Cuddle, was bred by Mr R. J. Murphy, for whom he was trained at Riccarton by R. Wilson. He numbered among his successes in this country the CJC Challenge Stakes and Members’ Handicap and the Thorndon Handicap at Trentham.' He was later sold to an Australian owner, for whom he won the Adelaide Cup before being retired to the stud.
