Detract To Start At Trentham To-morrow
Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. A fog spoilt the conditions for the track work at Riccarton this morning, Candidates for the Geraldine meeting were given their final gallops, but much of the work was completed when the fog lifted sufficiently to enable the horses to be seen. Lord Robin was given a quiet run over two hurdles. The three-year-old Sharman was not taken to Trentham. She showed signs of shin soreness, so L. J. Ellis decided to leave her at home. Detract was not seriously hurt when he got down in his float when on the way to Lyttelton on Monday. He was sent north last night under the care of J. T. Anderson, who will ride him in the Wellington Handicap. Disturbance has developed trouble in one of her hocks, probably the result of a strain while running in the sprint at the South Canterbury meeting last week. A. Cutts has eased her up, and it looks as if she will have to be spelled for a month or two.
At Trentham on Saturday A. J. Stokes will ride Beaumaris ahd Swayup. J. S. Shaw had not secured a pilot for Trinidad when he left here last night. These three are all engaged in the Wellington Guineas on ■ the second day, and they will be ridden by A. J. Stokes, Trinidad; L. J. Ellis. Beaumaris: C. Stokes. Swayup.
