CATCHMENT BOARDS

SUPPORT FOR ABOLITION i REQUEST TO COUNCIL Was It not significant that amongst the many local bodies which had supported the council’s resolution were four counties that had had several years’ experience of catchment boards? stated a letter from the Tuapeka County Council, received at last night’s monthly meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council on the question of catchment boards. In order to remove any misgivings, the letter stated, it was pointed out that it was in the intersts of the farming industry that the Royal Commission made its recommendation to abolish catchment boards. The council asked support of its resolution requesting the Government to accept the commission’s recommendation or to refer the issue to the Local Government Commission, with a view to setting up a more effective and less costly method of administration. Received, no action to be taken.
