‘"LIKE ALL CHALLENGERS—HOPEFUL” BRIGHT TUSSLE EXPECTED The Auckland Rugby team is not under-estimating the nature of its task in trying to wrest the Ranfurly Shield from Otago to-day. Players and officials alike believe it will be a hard game for what they consider the premiership of provincial Rugby in New Zealand. Here are the comments of the four officials accompanying the team: — Mr A. L. Simmon (manager): “Like all challengers, we are hopeful. The shield, which represents the premiership of New Zealand Rugby, has done a lot for Otago We hope to cash in on it, for it would be a great boost to Rugby in our province. The players, I know, will do their best and show that they have ability.” Mr T. A. French (selector and coach): “The Auckland team has gone through special preparation for this game. The /players are looking forward with keen interest to a bright tussle with the Otago team, which has done so well in defence of the shield, and can only hope that the better side wins. However, we would welcome the shield coming to Auckland for it would help tremendously to foster and put more life into Rugby football in out province.” Mr M. N. Corner (assistant coach): "We have a 50-50 chance. Win or lose, we will still smile.” Mr A. Don (assistant manager): “Both teams have been depleted through injuries, so it is hard to say what will happen. I do hope, however, that the weather remains fine.”
