IMPORTANT SUCCESS FOR ESTO FIDELIS

Esto Fidelis had her most important success to date when she won the Ferguson Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Trained at Mataura by D, Todd, she had always shown great promise in her races, and her best form had been displayed over distances up to one mile and five furlongs. Last season she was only four times unplaced—once at Addington, once at the Wellington winter meeting, and twice at the Auckland winter meeting—her record reading two wins and four minor placings. Her first success was at Invercargill when she defeated Parawa Derby and Hall Ace in the Members’ Handicap, and the other was at the Forbury Park winter meeting when she beat Worthy Ace and s Aqua Lady in the Pacific Handicap, of 13 furlongs. A six-year-old mare, she ranks as a full sister to a promising improver in Tutta Bella. Esto Fidelis should go on to a tight mark this season. On Saturday, her stablemate, Double Dillon, ran third to Gay Warrior and Yours Truly in the Devonport Handicap. Both horses have been nominated for the Forbury Park spring meeting next month.
