OLD-TIME PLAYER

ONE OF ORIGINAL ALL BLACK SELECTORS DEATH OF MR F. T. EVANS PA CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 28. Mr F. T. Evans, who died on Saturday, was one of the selectors of the original All Black team of 1905. He had been a Canterbury representative of the eighties and in 1888 played for the South Island against Stoddart’s team. Mr Evans was a successful teacher and later inspector of schools in Canterbury. He was president of the Canterbury Rugby Union from 1914 to 1918. He was one time president of the North Canterbury branch of the Educational Institute, and a member of the New Zealand Executive of the institute. He was elected to the City Council in 1931 as an independent and served two terms.
