USE OF CITY VEHICLES
Sir, —Some weeks ago we were informed that the city finances were in a bad way. As a ratepayer, I have been very much concerned, and consider that someor,, is lacking in his duty in not taking steps to check up on all sources of revenue leakages. In my area there is a glaring case of misuse of a departmental vehicle. An employee of one of the trading departments travels to and from his work daily, home for lunch included, per medium of motor truck, and is not above giving lifts to potential tram riders. Apart from regular trips as indicated, there is evidence that special trips are also made. For instance, on Friday a trip was made about 2 p.m. with what appeared to be garden plants. It would be interesting to know just what the cost of running this vehicle is and the amount of depreciation caused by the truck being left outside in the street at night, summer and winter. A very bad state of affairs is evident and an investigation is overdue I am, etc.. Maryhiil.
[lf the complainant would supply him with specific information regarding the alleged irregularities the matter would be investigated, said the town clerk, Mr R. A. Johnston, when this letter was referred to him.—Ed. ODT.]
