DREDGE OTAKOU’S OVERHAUL TEMPORARY REPAIRS TWENTY YEARS AGO The dredge Otakou’s overhaul had unfortunately cost a large amount, but She was 20 years old and was reaching the stage when a fair amount of repair work was needed to keep her in order, said the chairman, Mr W. R Clarke, at a meeting of the Otago Harbour Board last night. It was expected, Mr. Clarke said, that the overhaul would cost about twice, the amount allowed in the estimates. Mr T. Anderson asked why the repairs had been left for such a long time and what was the approximate cost of the overhaul. The chairman said that the dredge had had an accident in 1930 and temporary repairs were made. The position, nad since become aggravated. He was rather surprised at the amount of work which had to be, done. The approximate cost would be £9OOO. “ The work had to be done.”,. Mr Clarke said, “ and she is in first-class order now.”
