NOTES FROM RICCARTON
Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, May 27.
Kartikeya, who is booked to run in the sprint at the South Canterbury meeting to-morrow, will be having his first race after a spell. He will go to Oamaru next month, after which Ashburton will provide another opportunity for a race, prior to Trentham in July, where the track conditions should suit the Finis horse.
Responsive will carry about 101 b overweight in the South Canterbury Handicap, in which A. J. Stokes will be her rider.
The apprentice R. W. Gould will ride the top-weight, Hormond, in the Temuka Hack Handicap. The absence of Cavalryman and Snowdale from the steeplechase at Washdyke to-morrow is due to the fact that they are reported to have gone wrong while racing on the first day. Gay Fort, who has an engagement in the Temuka Hack Handicap, has made a good recovery from the hock trouble that caused a break in his preparation. He has not had any serious track gallops lately, though he has done lot of strong work on the New Brighton beach. He is being prepared for another steeplechase campaign and he will not be ready to show his best form till later in the winter.
