THREE-ACT PLAY

TAIERI DRAMATIC SOCIETY The Taieri Dramatic Society presented a three-act play, “After October ” at the Mosgiel Hall on Thursday night. The play, which is a drawingroom. comedy by Rodney Ackland, was produced by Mr Rodney Kennedy, of the Country Drama Scheme of Adult Education. The stage set, scenery and lighting effects were excellent, and the whole production was of a high standard. Some of the acting was patchy, as is unavoidable in a new amateur group, but Mrs Catherine Taylor’s performance as Rhoda Monkharns, the mother, was particularly good. Mr Robin Smellie as the unsuccessful playwright, the central character, and Miss Maysie Taylor, who played opposite him, gave good performances. Mr Harry McLeod deserves special mention, as it was his first appearance before the footlights, and his character study of the temperamental Frenchman was delightful. Messrs Allan Sawell and Harold Campbell both handled their parts well. Other parts were taken by Nellie Shaw, Joan McLeod, Alec de Haro, Beverley Swallow, and Judith Soper.
