PERSONAL INTEREST
FIORDLAND EXPEDITION FILM At least one resident of Dunedin will have a personal interest m the film of the Fiordland Expedition which began a season in the city last night He is Mr V. R. Wood, of the State Forestry Department, who was one ot 12 service personnel with the expedition, and spent almost four months in the Sounds area. , The most interesting feature of the expedition, Mr Wood said, was the chance it gave him to observe the wapiti. The animals were most curious creatures and did not show any great fear of man. The bucks, which some times stood about sft _ 6in at the shoulder, had superb hides. These were a cream colour from the rear of the forequarters back, and were very warm to sleep in. Only about six meals of the flesh of the wapiti had been served to the members of the expedition. .Little shooting was done so as not to frighten the animals seriously. But when one was killed as a specimen close to a camp, most of the men enjoyed a meal.
