OTAGO HUNT CLUB

SATURDAY’S MEET The morning run of the Otago Hunt Club was held at Seaview, Corstorphine, over the properties of Messrs G. H. Murdoch and R. -Pulliam. Overhead conditions were ideal but the going was heavy in parts and there were several falls during the day. As a number of members and followers attended the Birchwood Hunt meeting the fields were not as large as usual. The hounds worked well and there is no doubt that the innovation of transporting them to the meets has not only obviated the risk of injury on the road, but has also allowed them to arrive fresh for two runs in the one day. In the absence of the deputy master, Mr J. Smellie acted in that capacity Lucio, a thoroughbred by Friday Night, made his first appearance in the hunting field and put up a promising performance. Master T. Mac Alister, a graduate from the juniors, put in a good round on Peter. After lunch the afternoon run was held over the properties of Mr G. H. Murdoch, Mrs Wintrup, Mrs Knox, Messrs Jensen Bros., E. H. Wintrup, J. Adams, W. Richards and Fauld Bros. Visitors who were welcomed by the master included Mr and Mrs Jackson, Waverley, of the Egmont-Wnnganui Hunt, Mr and Mrs W. J. Hales, Romahapa, and Miss Roche. Those who followed both hunts were: The master, Mr J. T. Brunton, on Robert B: the huntsman, Mr J. McCulloch, on William Tell; the whip, Mr W. Clifford, on Spot Cash (morning) and Noela (afternoon); Mrs Watson on Roseaday; Miss E. Ings on Bluebird; Messrs F. Gorton on Sally Mine; G. Lloyd on Jacko; F. Atchley on Lassie. Followers at the morning hunt only were Miss Ruth Russell on Sonny and 'Mr A. Abernethy on Lucio. The following qualified at the afternoon hunt: Messrs J. Smellie on Gentleman Jim, G. Geary on Frances, G. Trainor on Cavalier, and Master T. Mac Alister on Peter. The hunt next Saturday will be held at Brighton road.
