CORINEUS BACK TO FORM Spfecial to the Daily Times AUCKLAND, May 15. ' The contest for the Waikato Hurdles was marred when the leader, Moutoa Lord, fell at the second to last fence, half a mile from home, and Master Ted, going well, went down over him. At the time Moutoa Lord and Master Ted were out from eight to 10 lengths ahead of the others, who were headed by Corineus and Roman Duke, with Crod Armour, Duncan and Jon Rosa following in close order. After the leaders had fallen Roman Duke and Corlneus went ahead and they led into the straight just clear of Good Armour, Duncan, Our Gold, Observatory and Brookby Song. Corineus was slightly In front at the last fence and stalled off a determined challenge from Our Gold to win by half a neck Roman Duke was another neck away third, and Good Armour was fourth, succeeded by Jon Rosa, Observatory, Stock Exchange and Duncan. The top-weight, Corineus, was responsible fpr a good performance. He was last running to the first fence, but ran into third position before going half a mile, at which stage Moutoa Lord and Master Ted were well in front and setting a fast pace. It is probable that Corineus would still have won even if Moutoa Lord and Master Ted had not fallen, because he finished very solidly. It is evident that Corineus is right back to the good form he displayed last winter. The improving Lady Carmel finished too well for Dark Arrow in the Hamilton Handicap and beat him decisively. Prince Chat soon ran to the front to make the pace from Dark Arrow and Lady’s Bridge, who were together, ahead of Lady Carmel and Foxbay. On the home turn Dark Arrow ran up to Prince Chat and just in behind were Lady’s Bridge, Lady Carmel and Foxbay. Once in line for the post. Dark Arrow drew out slightly, but was unable to match the finishing speed of Lady Carmel, who beat him by a length and a-quarter Foxbay also came home strongly to be half a head away third and Saffron Walden was fourth, followed by Chung Chong, Conspiracy, Ganjah, Prince Chat and Briprly.
