LONDON TO KARACHI BRITISH PILOT’S FEAT IN FIGHTER Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, May 12. Neville Duke, a 27-year-old test Eilot, flew a Hawker Fury fighter from -ondon to Rome to-day in two hours 32 minutes, and broke the. record for the flight by 19 minutes. He covered the 910 miles at an average speed of 359 miles an hour. Duke flew on in an attack on the London-Karachi record, and covered the next stage of his flight—l 222 miles from Rome to Nicosia (Cyprus)—in three hours 15 minutes at an average speed of 376 miles an hour. Duke arrived at Karachi knocking three hours 54 minutes off the London-Karachi record. In the hop from London to Rome his Hawker Fury, which is a % fighter with a piston engine, beat the' record set up by a jet-engined Vampire. The London-Karachi record was held by a Lancaster bomber.
