LONDON WOOL SALES
SATISFACTORY CLEARANCE HOME , TRADE MAIN BUYER Rec 9 p m. LONDON, May 12. The London May wool sales opened to-day with offerings of 18,400 bales, including 7100 from New Zealand. Most of the greasy section of the offering was of average quality and competition was at first rather hesitant but quickened as a sound market basis was established. The home trade was the principal buyer with the Continent lending useful support, and there was a satisfactory clearance. . The Coi itee of London Wool Brokers’ report issued at the close of the day’s selling quotes half-breds and fine crossbred® a to -U per cent cheaper than at the last London sales on April 3 Medium crossbreds and skirtings, however, were in good demand and all quoted firm. Skirtings m particular cold very well. ... Scoured crossbreds were slightly easier but some speciality class scoured merino clips sold excellently. The market for slipes was a little irregular and noticeably cheaper.
