POLIOMYELITIS EPIDEMIC PA AUCKLAND, May 13. The end of the poliomyelitis epidemic which has affected the North Island since November, 1947, was predicted to-day by the medical health officer. Auckland, Dr A. W. S. Thompson. To the end of April, Dr Thompson said, one person in every 1000 in the Central Auckland health district had been admitted to hospital with poliomyelitis since the outbreak. In no extensive epidemic elsewhere had the incidence reached two per thousand. During 1948 there were 57 deaths. Newspaper reports indicated that deaths since then were only five.
