A VEGETARIAN?
Trout’s Unusual Meal A variation in diet was embarked upon by a trout which was landed towards the end of the angling season at the Waitaki River. Not content with its normal diet of water insects, bullies and flies, the trout, a 311 b brown, had consumed two potatoes 2jin and 2in in length respectively. The potatoes which were on display at the monthly meeting of the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society on Thursday night aroused considerable interest amongst councillors. Although shrivelled to approximately two-thirds their normal size, they were in remarkably good condition. The trout, which was in poor condition and not fit for human consumption, was landed by Mr A. Fyfe, of Duntroon. Upon examining his catch, Mr Fyfe felt what he thought to be a growth in its stomach and decided to perform an autopsy. Great was his surprise when he found two whole raw potatoes.
