GOOD AUTUMN GROWTH

FAIRLY MILD WEATHER The weather has been fairly mild this week for winter, with light rains which are keeping the land fairly moist for working. There has been good autumn growth since the rains and the country is much improved. Wheat.—ln the early part of the week there were fairly heavy deliveries of seed wheat, and as the weather permits, sowing of winter wheat is taking place. The harvest was an excellent one for saving the crop and all the wheat in store is of excellent quality. Further dressing and pickling of seed wheat is going on as orders are required. Oats.—There have been inquiries from the North Island for machine-dressed and clipped Algerians, but the quality of the lines on offer is hardly suitable, most of the lines being of feed quality. Achilles oats are of much better quality and they may to some extent take the place of the Algerian, having produced much better yields. The inquiry for while oats from the North Island has quietened down as immediate orders have been filled. Quotations for white oats are in accordance with the price order. Potatoes.—Tlie digging of the main crop is being held up owing to the wet state of the ground. Some areas have been dug and the yields on the whole are disap pointing, although the quality is good. Seeds.—The seed business for wholesale and retail this week is very quiet. It is expected that the price of good quality seeds will be maintained as there is not a big exportable surplus.
