MR WILLIAM S. PENMAN
The death occurred at Oamaru recently of Mr William Semple Penman, who was formerly a prominent figure in South Otago sport. In his younger days he was a keen rifleman and bowler, and was prominent in both these sports. He also played association football for the then formidable Kaitangata Club and represented Otago on several occasions. Another sport in which lie excelled was the now almost defunct game of quoits, and he held the championship of New Zealand on many occasions. Mr Penman served overseas with the Eighteenth Reinforcements of the Ist NZEF and was wounded at Passchendaele. His wife survives him and there was no family. He was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Charles Penman, of Kaitangata.
