RENTAL TRUCKS
LICENCES GRANTED Stating that he was'satisfied that rental trucks were necessary in the public interest, the No. 4 Licensing Authority, Mr C. L. Bishop, granted an application yesterday by Hod Band Rental Cars, Lid., Dunedin (Mr E. J. Anderson), for a licence for three trucks up to 15cwt to operate from Dunedin. The application was opposed by the Otago Commercial Transport Association (Mr J. P. Ward) and 29 carriers, mostly owner-drivers, who were represented by Mr G. M. Lloyd. . . Mr Ward said that the association would appeal on matters of law against the granting of'rental truck licences by the authority in Christchurch and possibly in Dunedin if the licence were granted. It was contended, he said, that the statutory authority did not provide for the issuing of rental truck licences. An application for the transfer of a goods service licence from Cheshire and Bainbridge, Dunedin (Mr M. M. Caudwell), to F. H. Benson, Dunedin (Mr I B. Stevenson), was granted, subject to a reduction in the transfer price from £IBOO to £I6OO (£SOO goodwill and £llOO for vehicles).
