QUIET WEEK

CITY FRUIT MARKET BANANAS DUE TO ARRIVE A quiet week was experienced on the city fruit marts. Apple deliveries were light during the week, Statesmen, Dunns and Ballarats only coming forward. Winter Cole and Winter Nelis pears were received, and had a good inquiry. Bananas arc due at the beginning of next week. A few came to hand yesterday. The consignment expected is, as far as can be ascertained, in a green condition. A few Island oranges are also expected next week. Queensland pineapples arrived at the beginning of the week in good order. A few peaches and plums arc still being received, but both are now practically finished for the season. The demand for tomatoes is confined to local hothouse varieties. Poor-coloured lines are hard to place. Tree tomatoes have cased in price, but Chinese gooseberries and passion fruit have a steady demand. Grapes were in heavy supply at the weekend. and prices were considerably lower than those ruling last week. A few lemons came to hand and were rationed to retailers. . Cabbage was in heavy supply during the week and sold at prices considerably lower than those ruling last week. Cauliflower, however, was short of the demand, and values firmed.
