ROYAL SHOW SCHEDULE
AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY RESPONSIBILITY SOUTHLAND DELEGATES’ VIEWS That the Royal Agricultural Society should be responsible for the compilation of the Royal Show schedule, including prize-money, conditions 'or rules or by-laws, was expressed in a Southland remit to the Southern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society at Gore yesterday The remit was unanimously approved. Mr A. L. Adamson, secretary of the Southland A. and P. Association, who sponsored the remit, said that he had recent experience of a Royal Show, and felt that as the Royal Agricultural Society prepared the skeleton schedule for the association arranging the show, it should complete the whole schedule. The association would arrange the local classes. Another point was that the prizemoney at different shows was not standardised, and Mr Adamson felt that it should be.
He was supported by Mr J. S. Marshall. if Invercargill. A second Southland remit, that the local association be given wider discretionary powers in the selection of Royal Show judges, was also carried after a division. A panel of judges was received by the association from the breeders’ societies, numbered 1. 2 and 3 which, in adherence to an unwritten law, were supposed to be chosen in their order according to their availability, it was stated. A recommendation to allow only rams from registered flocks to be sold at A and P flock',fairs in the southern district, was made on the motion of Mr T. McChristell, Balclutha. The allocation of dates for ram fairs is to be made by the Southern District Council in conjunction with the Otago and Southland Stock Agents’ Association.
