WAGE INCREASES
CLOTHING TRADE EMPLOYEES PA WELLINGTON, May 13. A wage increase of 5s a week for adult female workers and 6s for adult males from June 1 next is contained in an amendment to the New Zealand Clothing Trade Employees’ Award issued by the Court of Arbitration Varying increases are granted juniors This amendment to the award embodies the standard wage pronouncement of the court. Clothing workers receive the earlier increase from February 8 last, when the settlement reached in Conciliation Council was applied to the industry. Under that settlement an increase of 5s a week for journey women and slightly more for adult male workers was granted. The new adult weekly rates from June 1 next are: Journey women, £4 16s; male machinists, stock cutters and trimmers, examiners and pressers £7 13s 6d: second class chart cutters, £7 lfis 7d.
Similar amendments have been made to the Shirt. White and Silk Workers’ Award, and the Dressmakers and Milliners’ Award. The court also amended the New Zealand Engine Drivers’ Firemen and Greasers’ (general section) Award under which an increase of 11s 8d a week is granted from June 1.
